Best Android Apps of the Week

Our Best Android Apps of the Week saw the light of day about half a year ago and, since then, we are bringing you noteworthy apps on each Monday.

Because it’s Monday, it means that we are ready for another round of Best Android Apps of the Week. Our loyal readers may know that here’s were you will find the best apps that were released in Google Play Store in a week’s time frame. Besides new apps, the Best Android Apps of the Week column also features older apps that received important updates over the past week.

Some of the apps are free, some may be payed apps, others may come with in-app purchases. Without further ado, let’s have a look at this week’s apps.

Nova Launcher – Free

Nova is one of the most popular Android launchers out there and it received an important update last week.

The latest Nova Launcher update aims to give you a preview of the animations of the new Android L release. After you install or update Nova you will be able to enjoy Android L style folder preview, app animation, the new Android L search bar, and the new app drawer icon.

Of course, the new update also introduces fixes and optimizations. Nova launcher is free and it can be downloaded from Google Play Store at this link.

Adobe Photoshop Express 2.3 – Free

Adoble’s Photoshop Express app has been updated to version 2.3. Photoshop Express is the simplest of Adobe’s Android apps, but it’s also worth mentioning that it’s free.

The Photoshop Express 2.3 update brings blemish removal, the ability to remove fog and haze with Defog, to import RAW photos, and to control the intensity of Looks. As usual, the new version arrives with bug fixes and performance improvements.

Climatology – Free

Climatology is a new Android app developed by Microsoft for Google’s mobile platform. It aims to bring climate information for anywhere on Earth, including temperature, rain, and sunniness.

Climatology should be able to help you find dry places if you’re planning a holiday in December, or just to find out what the climate is in Burkina Faso in June.

Google Camera 2.3 – Free

Google’s Camera app has reached version 2.3, which introduces a new UI for panorama and remote shutter for Android Wear.

Therefore after you update Google Camera to v2.3 (get it from Play Store here, or get the APK from here) you will be able to remotely action the shutter from your Android Wear device. After you launch the camera app on your smartphone a camera card will appear on your smartwatch, allowing you to take the photo remotely.

The new Google Camera update also brings improvements to the Panorama and Photo Sphere interface.

Adobe Reader – Free

Adobe’s Reader app for Android is the best tool when it comes to handling PDF files. Well, their app got even better after the new update.

The new Adobe Reader version arrives with support for printing files from Android 4.4 KitKat devices and it introduces cover page support for viewing in two page mode. The new update also brings fixes for bugs.

Chromecast 1.7 – Free

If you happen to own a Chromecast device, you probably have the Android companion installed on your device already. We are glad to announce you that  the Chromecast Android app has been updated to version 1.7.

Chromecast 1.7 brings support for casting your Android screen and mirror what’s showing on your device to the TV. The new feature is available for Android devices running KitKat 4.4.2 and above.

Gmail 4.9 – Free

Gmail 4.9 update is now available in Google Play Store, arriving with a couple of useful improvements, tweaks and bug fixes.

The best thing about the Gmail 4.9 is the Google Drive integration, allowing you to insert files directly from cloud. You should also notice that you will receive autocomplete contact suggestions for To, CC, and Bcc fields after the first letter you type.

Flavourit – My Cookbook – Free

If you enjoy cooking you would probably enjoy Flavourit, too. Even though there are already a lot of cooking apps available for download in Google Play Store, Flavourit promises to bring something new to the table.

The best thing about the new app is the intuitive interface. It’s insanely easy to navigate through recipes, to sort them and to save them as favorite. Besides allowing you to save your favorite recipes, Flavourit also comes with a couple of pre-loaded recipes.
